Altruists such as volunteers, hosts, curators, connectors, local guides who give their time and effort because they want to share their interest and believe in the community.
Plug.events is a social network designed from the ground up to help these unsung community heroes who dedicate themselves to bringing us together.
As a community enabler you are part of a community and want to help people stay in touch with what is happening. However, information exists in many places, can be contradictory, and may not be up-to-date or accurate. In addition, the operating model of legacy social media is based on the ‘attention economy’ — more seat time = more sales; in fact you, the user, are the product.
All this means you and your community are surrounded by extraneous noise, and despite knowing most of your community organizers and the events it is hard to keep track of things.
Without Plug.events curating, coordinating, and communicating with organizers, artists and participants, is a messy, time-consuming and onerous task.
Mainstream social media doesn’t serve real-world communities, it distorts reality, amplifying content to lead us into increasingly narrow digital bubbles, often commercially driven, and away from human connection.
Organizers, artists, and teachers should not have to pay social media companies, either in money or time, to reach their audience. Your community should be easily accessible to everyone interested, or potentially interested, in your passion, without inviting disruptive behaviour, spam, scams and intrusive sales offers.
The power of legacy social media is built upon behavioral addiction and fear of missing out. That means they manipulate us into negative habits, reinforced by the worry that if we leave we feel socially disconnected.
Plug.events aims to burst these digital bubbles using a novel, fair and safe approach for the new ‘humane’ social media.
Once your community is on Plug all the information is in one place and you can do everything you need from there.
Plug.events mimics the real world when considering how to present information — in that real world you will make a judgement about the reliability and authenticity of information based on who is telling you, and how much you trust them. To reflect this Plug is designed to enable people, events, and orgs build their community reputation over time through their connections and interactions with others.
This is a sensitive and complex area but put simply: as a community member, you decide which people, events and orgs to support and interact with, this then contributes to their community reputation. When Plug displays search lists and suggestions we use this community reputation to present the results. We have designed this so that it is hard to cheat or game the system — we would like to say ‘impossible’ but that would be arrogant and foolish, but it is as good and honest as we can make it. No one, and nothing, can buy greater prominence than they deserve based on your feedback.
Plug.events strives to present authentic, reliable information that you can trust by using user-based community reputation.
